Island Peak Expedition via Everest Base Camp

Himalayas are magnificent monument of the earth. It offers the greatest attraction to thrilling adventurers, climbers and trekkers throughout the World. Island peak Himalayas, also known as Imja Tse, is a beautiful God gifted mountain in the Himalayas of eastern Nepal. The English expedition team tried this peak for the Mount Everest climbing preparation in 1953. Mr. Shipton Eric named the mountain as Island Peak in 1952 A.D for the Imja Peak.

Island peak 6,160m is an adventurous expedition but may complete within 2 days if weather favors you. During the Island Peak expedition via Everest base camp in Nepal challenges you physically but trained climbers and guides will assist you out there. The trip combines with fascinating hike through the popular Khumbu valley to Mount Everest base camp and Kalapthar finding you near to the Mount Everest. This trip would teach you the ideas, knowledge and lesson for the trekking in Himalayas. It will prove milestone for mountaineering. Reminding you, Island Peak (Imja Tse) is a demanding climb and you need to be physically fit and mentally prepared before attempting it. From the summit you are forced to think that you are inside the enormous fish bowl surrounded by biggest mountains of the world. First day (01): Arrival in Kathmandu
After being landed at Nepal Airport, Tribhuwan International Airport, the representatives of Himalayan Planet Adventures will warmly welcome with your name and safely make reach to the reserved hotel in Kathmandu. Having refreshment and some rest you will be brought in head office. You will be briefed about the tour and program. In the evening you will be enjoyed by fine Nepali typical and traditional dinner . In the mean time different cultural program will be held to introduce you about Nepal and Nepalese culture.

Second day (02): Flight to Lukla & trek to Phakding (2,652m, 8700 ft)
As scheduled, you will be in Lukla Airport (2,800 m, 9,186 ft) in the morning from Kathmandu which will take around 35 minutes. While you are having tea break the porters will carry the baggage as sorted by the guide. Viewing the beautiful Numbur Himal and Mount Phari the trek will begin to fulfill your curiosity. Local Sherpa will be on the way to live up their daily life. They will welcome you with big smile. Guide will ask you for lunch or break time on the suitable place. You will be crossing Dudhkoshi River and will climb more higher at teahouse where from you will see beautiful close up view of Mount Kusum Kangaru (6,369 m, 20,890 ft). After crossing suspension bridge around 3 hrs continuous walk Phakding village will welcome you where you can experience local culture and tradition.

Third day (03): Trek to Namche Bazar (3,440 m, 11,283 ft)
After saying goodbye to first night Sherpa village walk starts with short up and down hills. Mount Thamserku (6,608 m 21,675 ft) will smile for you. The trek will continue crossing the bridges and will reach Sagarmatha National Park . For the safety reason everyone including local guides will be checked. Entering from National park slow walk will be reached up to the bridge of Bhote Koshi river then Jorsalle village and the other villages till Namche bazaar. Finishing the villages the walk will continue to the river side following upper hills up to Namche Bazaar. From this Bazaar different peaks like Kwangde and other peaks towards east will fascinate you. Long walk of 5 to 6 hrs Namche Bazaar will force to forget your pain.

Fourth Day (04): Acclimatization day at Namche Bazar
This is rest day for all tired trekkers. It is time to watch the local life, Sherpa Museum, fantastic views and sceneries. Sherpa will make you understand their lifestyles, the history of mountaineering and some useful tips while trekking. Luxurious hotel like Everest view hotel and Syangboche airstrip can be enjoyed with day hiking. After full day enjoy evening time return to hotel for dinner and preparation for next day excursion.

Fifth Day (05): Trek to Tyangboche (3,867 m, 12,684 ft)
After refreshing, walk begins to Sanasa viewing biggest peaks of Mount Everest, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Thamserku and Kwangde peak. Following the route Phungithanga village will allow you to have some rest for tea and coffee. The way will be crossed through different trees, flowers and animals. It will be fun walking. After walking 5 to 6 hrs the destination of Tengboche will be reached. The village has huge monastery also known as Gumba for Buddhism. Beautiful shaped teahouse, hotel and lodges, field with campsites will force you to enjoy the views. You will find yourself all around Himalayas including beautiful Ama Dablam & summit of Mount Everest.

Sixth Day (06): Trek to Pheriche (4,200 m, 13,776 ft)
The trek will begin with normal walk through the quite forest where rhododendron blossom, bird’s tweet. Debouche (3,650 m) will follow you until Pangboche village with beautiful views on the way. After crossing this village the green forest will lose its view and will get windy path. We will be headed to destination, Pheriche. Himalayan Rescue Association will help the trekker and climbers who are in problem. Himalayan Rescue Association in Pheriche should give you speech about 3 pm about Altitude Mountain Sickness (AMS) and you will be invited for free lecture by expert Doctor. We will be stayed overnight at hotel at Pheriche.

Seventh Day (07): Acclimatization day at Pheriche
n It will be the rest day for all. Either you can rest or have some walk again up to Nagarjuna view point. Our recommendation is to hike Nagarjuna hill where from you will be surprisingly awarded by 360 degree Mountain View including Mount Makalu. If you wish to walk there are high hills and some other place but be sure you have to return to Pheriche hotel for stay back.

Eighth Day (08): Pheriche to Lobuche (4,928 m, 16,164ft)
The trek begins toward the North West. It will take an hour to reach the bottom of the hill where you are going to climb. Going on the way Thukla village will be on the way. After walking around an hour you will find yourself on the top from where you can watch more than 20 snow capped peaks and Valley. This is also suitable place for breaking time for a while. You can see the monuments of unfortunate climbers who lost their lives in expedition . We feel sorry for them and the treks again begin with view of kala patthar & Mount Pumori until Lobuche for overnight stay. (Breakfast, lunch, dinner & teahouse accommodation included)

Ninth Day (09): Trek to Everest Base Camp (EBC) and back to Gorekshep (5,316 m, 17,437 ft)
The target destination will be followed after checking in hotel Gorekshep. After having breakfast at hotel the interesting trip begins toward Everest Base Camp , foot of the world’s highest peak, and Khumbu Ice-fall. The dramatic landscape around you changes as you continue to climb higher and higher. The temperature will be dropping and you will be walking among frozen rivers in an icy wilderness. Follow your lead Sherpa because you may miss lead the way. It will take around 3 hrs to reach base camp. At base camp stand face to face with the fabled Khumbu Ice-fall and its towering sears. Capturing the beauty of Himalayas we will be back to Gorekshep again at hotel for overnight stay.

Tenth Day (10): Kala Patthar (5,550m/18,204ft) hike and stroll back to Dingboche (4,358m/14,295 ft)
Our journey begins with morning glory to Kala Patthar following steep climbing until 2 hrs. The top of Kala Patthar will force you to forget every pain and physical problem. It is a small rocky peak situated in the southwest of Mount Pumori. One can experience marvelous landscape and intriguing the culture of the mountain region during this trek. This trek is total mountain adventure journey to roof of the world, opportunities for outstanding photographic and many encounter of typical culture in highland. Feeling relaxed we have to be back to Dingboche leaving Gorakshep for overnight stay at teahouse after nearly seven hrs walk.

Eleventh Day (11): Dingboche to Chhukung Valley (4,730m, 15,518ft)
The day will begin with warm breakfast and head to eastern side of nearly 3 hrs a short walk. Walking up hill to Chhukung Valley will appear down the base of Island Peak . Small village will give you enough time to rest whole day. It is the last place to prepare the camping and check up climbing gear and overnight stay at tea house.

Twelve Day (12): Chukkung to Island Peak Base Camp (5,200m, 17,060ft)
Our trip will end to Island Base Camp for today .The trip will be continued through steep way climbing of southern part and turn to east to the main line of the valley. Windy climate from Lhotse Glacier will make you a bit in disturbance. Walking thorough stream side takes to Big Rock. The walk continues until we reach the South West of Island Peak. Around 5 hrs walk the tented camp will give you an overnight stay. The experience of staying in tent in mountain will cherish you.

Thirteenth Day (13): Island Base Camp to High Camp (5,600m, 18,372 ft)
The snowy morning will wake you up and have to prepare camping stuff. Today the trip will lead you to High Camp climbing steep hillside crossing hundred meters of path. The way changes to sandy then grassy way to the left of steep hillside. As you go on climbing the slope narrows and the way enter to steep rock channel nearby where we will again tent for overnight stay.

Fourteenth Day (14): High Camp to Summit (6,160m, 20,205 ft) to Chhukung
The trip of today starts with rocky way along small pebbles and Hugh black stones. Not very difficult way but there are several rocks to climb up on the right side of the gully. Then the way goes to glacier for which we are already prepared. You will need to rope up for the glacier as it contains several crevasses but it leads without difficulty, to a 100m/330ft snow and ice slope (40 to 45º) on which the guides will fix a rope. From the top of this slope, 3 rope lengths along a sharp summit ridge lead to the top. The eyes holding scene and your bravery to climb the summit of Island Peak (Height of 6,160 meters, 20,205 feet) make you proud and satisfied. It is time to return back to Chhukung after about 10 hrs walking and climbing.

Fifteenth Day (15): Reserve day for unforeseen condition
You can enjoy this day as free day or rest day for the unforeseen condition. During the Island peak if the weather challenges you or physical problem the day will help you out to stretch your body. You can enjoy by walking around, camping or staying in teahouse.

Sixteenth Day (16): Chukkung to Tengboche (3,867m, 12,684 ft)
The trip would be going downhill today to a lower elevation from Chhukung to Tengboche. Crossing Dingboche the bridge, stream towards Pangboche village the destination of Tengboche arrives. The village has huge monastery for Buddhism. Beautiful shaped teahouse, hotel and lodges, field with campsites will force you to enjoy the views. You will find yourself all around Himalayas like Ama Dablam, Mt. Everest and Mt. Lhotse toward north east and more peaks all around you.

Seventeenth Day (17): Tengboche to Namche (3,440m, 11,283 ft)
The trek will go down to Phungithanka where couples of teahouse are located. The trail passes across patches of forest up and down slopes and over log bridges. The village is set on the slopes of horseshoe shaped valley. First view of Everest can be viewed after final steep climb. It will take around 5 hrs walk to reach Namche Bazar for overnight stay.

Eighteenth Day (18): Namche to Lukla (2,800m, 9,186 ft)
This is the last day walking trip of whole tour. We will be go long way before bridge crossing and again walk to Phakding for lunch. The way will fascinate you and give memory of your trip. Small villages, local Sherpa’s, mountains, greenery will attract you. Arriving at Lukla guide will confirm related things like flight ticket, stuff .You can view final look of Lukla and celebrate the last dinner with all the related member of the trip and stay overnight to the hotel.

Nineteenth Day (19): Fly back to Kathmandu
Mostly the fight will be in the morning because of windy weather the afternoon. The flight schedule may change according to weather. After landing in Kathmandu guide will take you back in hotel. It’s time to have fun and resting you after long tired journey.

Twentieth Day (20): Leisure at Kathmandu/Flight reserve day
This day makes you assure that everything is on right track means the less chance of missing flight or delaying flight. You can go through Kathmandu Valley for Shopping, watching the tradition and culture of Local Nepalese. The final dinner at hotel and stay overnight will finish your Nepal visit.

Twenty-first Day (21): Departure from Kathmandu
Last day of Nepal visit. Gift and Nepalese item to relatives, friends and family can be purchased. You will be getting reached to Airport for departure. If you feel satisfied with our travel agent you can make sure for next trip and say Good Bye to Nepal.

TIPS BEFORE ISLAND PEAK CLIMBING NEPAL

Meals and Accommodation:

Meals will be provided by our company during the trek and expedition time until you depart from us as stated in daily itinerary. We offer open and the choice menu in our tea house where you can select the food for breakfast, lunch and dinner three times in a day. Our guide and chef will ensure your food is hygienic and nutritious. While you are in Kathmandu city each day breakfast along welcome and farewell dinner will be serving you. It is your choice which to prefer. Snacks, bottled drinks including mineral water and alcohol are not included in the price. Incase if you are stuck in Lukla many days due to weather conditions / flight problem we will provide meals until your package remaining date instead of Kathmandu hotel accommodation and after this all occur cost you need to bear yourself, you may claim from insurance company.

We will reserve the Kathmandu hotel as per your requested categories as Tourist standard, 4 stars or 5 stars based on your budget. We will provide three night’s twin sharing accommodation in Kathmandu and 15 night’s twin share accommodation in teahouse/Lodge during the trekking period and 2 nights in tented camp during the climbing period (Single occupancy available on request with single supplement US$ 180.00).

Note: These are the recommendable Island peak trekking and climbing equipments list to bring with you. It is not all necessary to bring personal trekking gear list as you can select must necessity but personal climber gear is must. Also most of the climbing gear / equipments can buy or hire in Kathmandu, Namche and Chhukung.

Trekking Group

What is best group size for Island peak? This trip is designed based on group joining but on request we would organize the private trip too on your specific date, please find the Island peak group joining date on our departure date 2013 and 2014. It would be easy for you if you have your own group if not we will arrange you in group in large or small as your request, please email us group size. You would be joining the group in Kathmandu. If you want to have single trip we are ready to help you again with solo trip cost. We will make you comfortable anyhow in your trip.

Physical Requirements 

How technical is Island peak? Island Peak Climbing via Everest base camp is technically sounds vast but if you have little knowledge about Ice Axe, Crampons, Knots we can help you more finding trials up to summit. Be sure you are mentally and physically fit for the trip because you have to walk nearly four to six hours every day during the trekking and it is about nine hours on climbing day. Also, it would be better for you to consult your personnel doctor for physical and mental test before booking the trip. The fitter you are, the more you will enjoy it, and you will have enough energy for extra activities.

Our procedure is smooth as a safety concern: For our climbing group, there will be one mountaineering leader, asst. trekking guide, chef and one Sherpa porter for each two persons. This ensure if in case of one get sick, it would not disturb the itinerary and fellow members, the trip still running as plan as in itinerary. And please understand that our group starts from 2 and maximum it goes up to 10 which is good team to communicate and facilitate in every manner.

Porter Care:In our group member each has allowed his/her gear bag weighted not exceeding than 15kgs/33 pounds that we strongly care of porters rights and solely against any exploitation on its operation.

Acclimatization 

How many days do we need acclimatization for Island peak Climbing? This Island peak climbing via Everest base camp trek itinerary specially tailored considering with a high degree of minimization of Acute Mountain Sickness. As per your itinerary we have 2 days acclimatization in Namche and Pheriche. Before climbing we take you Everest base camp & height of 5550 meters at Kala Patthar then take to climbing part to Island peak. This is quite enough for experienced hikers/ climbers. To save from emergency AMS we carry oxygen or portable altitude chamber too.

 Travel Insurance

Recommended Travel Insurance for Island peak?We recommend you to have general travel insurance and trip cancellation insurance. This comprehensive travel insurance provides coverage for trip cancellation and interruption, travel delays, loss of baggage and travel documents, baggage delay, medical expenses and emergency assistance. Many of the travel insurance company don’t cover insurance above base camp. It is hard to find who through you book travel insurance for Island peak? Here is some list of travel insurance company who accept above base camp of mountains.

Climate and Weather 

Nepal is a country of diversified in a geography starting from 60 meters to top of the Planet Earth 8,848 meters at the top of Mt. Everest. We have dry season from October to May and the wet season (monsoon) from June to September. For the Island peak climbing mid September to November is one of the good times and also March to May is the best to climb in Island peak. During the autumn the vegetation is lush after the rains of the monsoon and the air is clean and fresh and spring can be a little dusty but with pleasant & warm weather.  December to February is too cold for climbing as well as Kathmandu too. Starting the rain from June and till the mid of the September and cloudy weather badly for visibility which is impossible for climbing in Himalayas.

Passport and Nepalese Visa Requirements 

How do I get Nepal tourist Visa information? Before you traveling to Island peak climbing please check your passport and validity date. Passports most have at least 6 months validity after finish date of your trip. We most require your copy of full passport details send by fax or scan copy is most preferable. In Nepal you will require a visa which can be obtained in advance from the Nepalese Embassy from your country or you can get on arrival at the airport in Kathmandu (Peak season you need to wait long in airport during the obtaining visa). Nepal Tourist Visa Fees (How much is Nepal tourist visa cost?)

  • US Dollars $25.00 or other convertible foreign currency equivalent thereto for 15 days multiple entry visa.
  • US Dollars $40.00 or other convertible foreign currency equivalent thereto for 30 days multiple entry visa.
  • US Dollars $100.00 or other convertible foreign currency equivalent thereto for 90 days multiple entry visa.
  • Notwithstanding anything written in clause (a) and (b), no visa fee shall be applicable to the passport holder of member states of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) for 30 days.

Island Peak Permits and fees

On the Island peak climbing you most require to obtain the Sagarmatha National park entry permits approx. US$ 35.00 P/P and Island peak climbing permit cost US$ 350.00 (Sharing within 4 persons). All the relevant permits and entry fees are including on the given cost except personal charity.

How to book Island Peak Expedition?

While you decide to go island peak with Himalayan Planet Adventures, contact our head office by mail or phone to check the availability dates (may visit the updated departure date page) groups or any remaining question you may have. We are happy to help and reply responsively as soon as possible. We’ll hold your booking with us before your final decision. Please read properly our trip booking terms & conditions before your booking and fill up the booking form (download from our website) along with the appropriate deposit of 20 % per person in advance and payment made through the bank transfer or submit your credit card (visa/master card) details with booking form. When you choose the method of advance payment in an appropriate way, an online completed booking form will still be required for confirmation of booking. Bookings will only be confirmed once when we received a completed online booking form along with appropriate amount of payment.

The final balance for your booking will be on arrival in Kathmandu. We will invoicing you before your arrival for the final balance along with other final pre departure details as appropriate. Your final invoice will show the price based on the previous quote at the time of invoicing. Please read the trip booking term and condition while you book the trip with us!

This Island Peak Climb via Everest Base Camp Expedition has published a fixed departure date for 2013 & 2014 which is start & end at Kathmandu. START DATE means your first ARRIVAL DAY in Kathmandu & END DATE means your last DEPARTURE DAY from Kathmandu. If you want to extending your holidays before start the expedition or after expedition finish you are free to do this. These are the departure dates currently available to book online. If these publish dates are not suit your time we are happy to customize the departure dates as your suit and happy to make your date as fixed departure date. Please inform us before the trip booking. 

Price:
The publish prices for 2013 & 2014 are per person basis joining in land but excluding international flights. This price is fixed and given you on group joining & based on twin sharing accommodation. If you prefer to single accommodation please request for single supplement with additional cost.
