Tiji Festival in Mustang Trek

The Tiji Festival in Mustang is one of the most important and colorful cultural festival in mountain region. Held annually to chase away demons, it is a time of prayer and dance as monks don colorful costumes and masks and perform ritual dances watched by spectators (dressed in their best clothes and jewelry) who have gathered from throughout the region.

Tiji Festival Mustang trek lying in the rain shadow of the Himalayas is perhaps the last enclave of pristine Tibetan culture. Forbidden & isolated from the rest of the World it was able to evolve its own distinctive culture and traditional which is so rich & unique. Lo-Mustang, the capital is walled city ruled by religious king. Untouched by modern civilization, life in Mustang goes on as it has for centuries in unhurried pace. A trek into the kingdom of Mustang is an unforgettable experience. Upper Mustang is restricted area of Nepal. Who wish to visit Mustang, Have to pay special permit fee and apply for permit any Gov. Resister trekking agency in Nepal.

The Tiji festival is a three-day ritual known as "The chasing of the Demons" and it is centered on the Tiji myth. Tiji tells the story of a deity named Dorje Jono who must battle against his demon father to save the Kingdom of Mustang from destruction. The demon father wreaks havoc on Mustang by creating a water shortage which, in this extremely arid land, is the most precious life-sustaining resource. Dorje Jono eventually defeats the demon and banishes him from the land.

Tiji is a celebration and reaffirmation of this myth. Throughout the festival the events and story of the myth are re-enacted. The festival is timed to coincide with the end of the dry season (late winter/spring) and ushers in the wetter monsoon season. Tiji comes from the words "ten che" meaning "the hope of Buddha Dharma prevailing in all worlds" and is a spring renewal festival that also celebrates the triumph of good over evil in1964. At this time, the Mustang region was still completely closed off to foreigners and he had to obtain special permission from the government of Nepal in order to enter the Region.

Acclimatization
Our itinerary specially tailored considering with a high degree of minimization of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). Normally, altitude sickness stars from 3,600 meters/11808 feet and there is no problem below this standard. During your trip this is a best solution go slowly with body acclimatization. Consider in the higher altitude there is less oxygen in the air. Suppose, crossing high passes more than 5,000 meters/ 16,400 feet, there is 50% less oxygen than at sea level. Your body needs many days to acclimatization during the travel in high Himalaya. Please check about high altitudes sickness by Dr. Jim Duff in below link, (http://www.treksafe.com.au/medical/altitude_illness.htm)

Travel Insurance
We strongly recommend the purchase of trip cancellation and travel insurance. This comprehensive travel insurance provides coverage for trip cancellation and interruption, travel delays, loss of baggage and travel documents, baggage delay, medical expenses and emergency assistance.

Climate and Weather
Nepal is a country of diversified in a topography starting from 60 meters to top of the world 8,848 meters. Basically we have dry season from October to May and the wet season (monsoon) from June to September. Mid September to end of the November is one of the best times and also March to May good to visit in Nepal. During the autumn the vegetation is lush after the rains of the monsoon and the air is clean and fresh and spring can be a little dusty but with pleasant & warm weather. December to February is good for visibility but cold in high altitude as well as Kathmandu too. Starting the rain from June and till the mid of the September and cloudy weather badly for visibility but for the upper mustang this is best time of the year because this reason has in Trans Himalayan district which is rain shadow areas.
