Trip Overview

Island (Imja Tse) peak, is 6,000 meters climbing mountain in the Himalayas of eastern Nepal. This famous climbing peak in upper Khumbu region was named Island peak in 1951 by group of Eric Shipton when the peak appear as an island in a sea of ice when viewed from Dingboche. The beautiful peak in Himalayas was later renamed in 1983 to Imja Tse but Island peak is more popular name for everyone. This peak is located eastern part of Dingboche Village and an extension of the ridge coming down off the south of Mt. Lhotse Shar. The Island peak was first climbed in 1953 by a British team as a training exercise before climbing to Mount Everest. The first climber of Mount Everest Tenzing Norgey was one of the members of this first ascent team of Island peak. The Island peak is one of the most popular trekking peaks in Nepal Himalayas which difficulty graded on (alpine PD+) and can be summit on the support by a Nepalese climbing guide.

This Island peak (Elevation: 6,160 meters / 20,205 feet) trip combines the Gokyo Valley and the Mount Everest base camp. The trek begins after a scenic flight to Lukla and we trek through the homeland of the Sherpa. The trail follows many Sherpa farm villages with beautiful Lakes & glacier in Gokyo. The Gokyo Ri and Kalapathar is a two view point for the outstanding breathes taking view of many higher mountains including Mt. Everest. After visiting Everest base camp we enter the Imja valley and hike to Island peak base camp. We have 2 days to climb Island peak which includes an extra day in case the weather does not co-operate on our first attempt. The climbing is challenging but this provides one of the most aesthetic mornings that a Himalayan climber could dream of.
